Angelica archangelica var. maiorum is a variant of garden angelica (or norwegian a.) that is a result of an old cultivation tradition in Voss. The wild form has hollow stems and a somewhat bitter taste, but vossakvann has more or less filled stems and a milder and fresher taste. ‘Teigdalen’ is one of three known varieties.
The seeds are from this year’s production from our long-term breeding project. This is an exclusive product with few portions, and the price is relatively high so that we can finance the work.

Description
Angelica archangelica var. maiorum is a variant of garden angelica (or norwegian a.) that is a result of an old cultivation tradition in Voss. The wild form has hollow stems and a somewhat bitter taste, but vossakvann has more or less filled stems and a milder and fresher taste.
By selecting for these traits over several hundred years, and in small delimited angelica gardens, several separate lines of vossakvann emerged, also those with different properties. Cultivation has declined a lot in recent decades, there are probably only 3 lines left, and of some of these only a few individuals.
The farm Mestad is located in Teigdalen, west of Voss. The line is not stable in terms of full stem, so work must be done with selection. Seeds were collected there in the autumn of 2017, and 65 plants emerged from the first sowing, and we have worked for a few years on the basis of this. See also Archangelica.no
NB! Should be sown as soon as possible for best results, because the ability to germinate decreases relatively quickly.
